Follow father-son kidney surgeries in Dallas via Twitter on Monday

"Three-year-old John Gilbreath will receive a kidney from his firefighting father, Chris, on Monday at Children's Medical Center Dallas. And you can keep up with the transplant surgery on #Twitter. While the operation is considered routine, it will be the first time in the country that a family of a transplant patient will follow the surgery via Twitter, the free social-network messaging system. Rather than wait for surgeons to finish their work, loved ones - including the boy's mother, Amanda - will get timely updates from hospital staffers posted inside the operating rooms as the procedures unfold. Together, the surgeries should take about six hours. The 31-year-old father's surgery will start at 6 a.m. Monday with the removal of his left kidney at St. Paul University Hospital at UT Southwestern Medical Center. John's surgery should begin about 8:30 a.m. at Children's. To follow the procedures, you can sign up at twitter.com/ChildrensTheOne or log on to dallasnews.com, where we'll be linking to the Twitter feeds. On Tuesday, read reporter Sherry Jacobson's full story about the Bonham family in The Dallas Morning News" - Dallas News
