Twitter is fastest-growing "web brand"
#Twitter, the microblogging service, was the fastest-growing "web brand" in the US in May 2009, when its user base increased in size by over 1,000% on an annual basis, figures from Nielsen Online, the internet research firm, show. According to the company, the amount of time an average web user spent on blogs and social networking sites in the US increased by 67% in May. The number of Americans using Twitter reached 18.2 million during this period, an upswing of 1,448% on the total of 1.2 million recorded in the fifth month of 2008. - WARC
Habitat sorry for Iran Tweeting
"Furniture store Habitat has apologised for causing offence after accusations it exploited unrest in Iran to drive online #Twitter users to its products. Keywords - called hashtags - such as 'Iran' and 'Mousavi' were added to its messages so people searching for those subjects would see the firm's adverts. Users of the networking site reacted angrily and the posts were removed. The retailer has said the use of the hashtags were "not authorised", but declined to say who was responsible" - BBC
Now even houses can 'tweet'... as homeowner wires his cottage to Twitter
A computer engineer has wired up his family home to internet sensation Twitter so the building itself can 'tweet'. Andy Stanford-Clark, 43, was worried about how to maintain his idyllic Elizabethan cottage in a secluded part of the Isle of Wight. How would he know when the heating was on for too long, an upstairs window left ajar, or the garden hosepipe dripping? To solve the problem, he rigged up a network of sensors in every room to monitor every activity - and send updates to his mobile phone via Twitter. - Mail

Tory Council bans twitter (UK)
Plymouth Labour has reacted with disappointment to the decision by Barry Keel, the Chief Executive of Plymouth City Council, to ban democratically elected councillors from using #Twitter. Councillor Tudor Evans, who tweets using @councillortudor, said: "Banning Twitter is another kneejerk reaction from a council that is barely able to cope with email let alone YouTube and Facebook. It is worrying that a Council has banned democratically elected Councillors from communicating the political process in Plymouth. Let's be clear this isn't about Twitter, this is about the Council stopping Councillors talking about what happens inside and outside the Council's Ivory Towers." - Labour Matter

Mass-mailing worm in fake Twitter account invite
From Symantec Corporation: "Last month we reported that spammers had used Twitter as bait to lure innocent victims into a phishing trap, and now we're seeing a wave of fake Twitter invitations that come carrying a mass-mailing worm. The observed messages appear as if they have been sent from a Twitter account; however, unlike a legitimate Twitter message, there is no invitation URL present in the body. Instead, the user will see an attachment that appears as a .zip file that purportedly contains an invitation card. Invitation Card.zip is the name of the malicious attachment, and it is being identified as W32.Ackantta.B@mm, which was first discovered in an e-card virus attack in February. W32.Ackantta.B@mm is a mass-mailing worm that gathers email addresses from the compromised computer and spreads by copying itself to removable drives and shared folders"

New version of Twitterfeed available
"Six weeks or so ago, Betaworks and TAG invested in Twitterfeed and the service went from a side project to a company. Since then, we've been working flat out to make the service far more robust and create some new features that we hope you will love. So what does this mean? Much greater reliability. We've almost completely rebuilt the back end over the last month and added a lot more capacity. We're confident that this should largely solve the problems that have occasionally meant Twitterfeed hasn't published a post on time. What's more, this will give us a great basis for building an even stronger, faster Twitterfeed in the near future!"
